COCONUT STUFFED MODAK RECIPE

Modak is a very special sweet dish in India. It has a traditional story related to the Lord Ganesha. Modak is Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet. In India people make modak in their home and give it to their Lord to express their devotion toward the God. It is made with rice or Suji (semolina) and coconut. You can also make this modak using few easy steps with Recipes and cook.

Today we will make Rawa or semolina Modak.

INGREDIENTS:


*1cup - 250ml; *1tbsp. – Tablespoon; *1tsp. – Teaspoon; 
  • Semolina (suji) – 2 cups
  • Coconut – 1 medium size
  • Cardamom – 2 pieces
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Saffron – 1 pinch
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Water – 1½ (we need warm water to make dough)


Follow these easy steps to make Modak


A. PREPARATIONS FOR SWEET COCONUT STUFFING:

1.  Take a medium size coconut, break it and grate its inside pulps. We can use around 1½ of coconut.

Tips: you can also use packet’s grated coconut, which is easily available in market.

2.  Now take a cooking pan on heat and put 1½ cup of grated coconut on it. Add ½ cup of sugar and cook it on low flame until the sugar melt.

3.  Now add 2 cardamom and ¼ cup of milk on it. Mix them all and cook for 5 minutes. After that increase the heat to medium and let it dry for another 1 to 2 minutes.
PREPARATION OF COCONUT STUFFING
4.  Sweet coconut stuffing is ready for modak. Turn off the heat and let it cool.

5.  Put the saffron on ½ cup of warm milk so that nice saffron color comes out.


B. PREPARATION OF OUTER PART OF MODAK:

1.  Take a big pan on heat, add 1½ cup of water on it. When the water starts boiling turn off the flame and add the 2 cups of semolina or suji to the hot water and mixes them with a spatula and put the lid. Wait for 3 to 5 minutes.

2.  Now open the lid, take it out on a plate and mix them well by using your hand. Make soft dough for modak.

SEMOLINA DOUGH
Tips: Grease your plum before mix the dough with your hand. It prevents the stickiness of semolina.


RECIPE:

Step 1: Now take a modak mould, grease it’s inside using ghee, put one tbsp. of semolina on it, make a little space on bottom. Now put ½ tbsp. of sweet coconut from the bottom and seal it using more semolina.

Step 2: Using the above steps, make more modaks. Put a steamer on heat and cook the modaks for 3 - 5 minutes. Take them out on a plate and wait for 2 minutes.

Step 3: Now add saffron milk on the top of each modak and your modak is ready to be served to Lord Ganesha.
